About Our Society

East Otago Musical Theatre (EOMT) has been putting on shows for the last 17 years.

It is a local group that was set up to give local talent the opportunity to be on stage performing and entertaining the local community.

That objective is still our priority. We endeavour to put on shows that suit our locals if we can. We include people from outside the community to get the numbers required and to fill the roles. Many of those people keep coming back to be part of our ongoing performances broadening our pool of talent to choose from.

Meet the Committee

  • Dave Keen

    PRESIDENT & SET MANAGER

    I became involved in EOMT in 2011. Initially to support my own children on stage usually behind the scenes but have often found myself on stage as well. I always enjoy watching our younger members performing and seeing their confidence grow. A useful tool for life going forward.

    I am very privileged to be the current president of the EOMT committee. Our members are a very positive bunch and are great to work with. They are all there to make sure the show goes on.

    Sharleen Snoeck

    VICE PRESIDENT & WARDROBE MANAGER

    I joined EOMT in 2015 shortly after moving to Waikouaiti with my two children. We wanted to meet new people and do something as a family. Our first show was Oklahoma, and I have been involved in every show since in roles both on and off the stage! My key responsibility now is managing the wardrobe, which has been an exciting challenge. My favourite thing about EOMT is the family atmosphere we have created, welcoming people of all ages.

    Sonya Watson

    TREASURER & PRODUCTION MANAGER

    I originally became involved with East Otago Musical Theatre in 2011 when my daughter successfully auditioned for the Theatre Restaurant production of ‘That’s Entertainment’.  I  helped in the wardrobe department for that show and have been a backstage fixture ever since, taking on a variety of roles over the years.

    Joining the committee was a natural progression and am currently the Treasurer and Production Manager. Love working with this passionate and driven group of people.

    Rebecca Sheat

    SECRETARY & HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

    I joined EOMT in 2022 for the production of CHICAGO! And have participated on stage every year since in various roles. A local to Palmerston for over 10 years, I live with my husband and 2 children. I have been devoted to the arts from the young age, right through to University of Otago, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Film and Media Studies.

    Chelsea Morrison

    TICKETING OFFICER

    I joined EOMT in 2012 as part of the cast of Radiowave. I’d performed in various shows and dance recitals through my childhood in Wellington but had to give it all up when I moved to Waikouaiti for work and missed it terribly. EOMT shows allowed me back into the world again and I hope to be on stage with this amazing team for many years to come.

    Megan Gallagher

    SPONSORSHIP COORDINATOR & MTNZ REP

    I joined EOMT in 2015 with my first show being Oklahoma. I had been away from the stage for a few years and missed it, so I took the risk and gave it a go with EOMT. It didn’t take long to feel like I’d found my new theatre whanau. I have been involved in several shows since then mostly on stage and working behind the scenes at times. I love the variety of shows we put on for our community and working with so many talented people both on and off the stage.

    Greta McCaw

    YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE

    I joined EOMT in 2019 when I played Pugsley Addams in ‘The Addams Family’. I was only 11 years old and it was my very first show, it was so much fun. Since then, I have performed in every production since then, except for two. I decided to audition because I have always been in love with performing ever since I was little and theatre was always something I wanted to be a part of. Being involved with EOMT has been a wonderful experience and I am so lucky to be a part of it.

    Zara Voice

    GENERAL PUBLICITY & WEBSITE COORDINATOR

    We moved our family to Palmerston in June of 2020 at the end of lockdown. I had been stuck at home for far too long and decided I wanted more from my life. After watching EOMT’s production of Snowy in 2022 I finally found what I wanted to do, and I was super keen to get my foot in the door. I was cast as Anita Repeater (one of the witches) for the production of WOz 2023. I was not expecting to be cast so soon, I thought it would take years but was pleasantly surprised and am incredibly grateful to be part of this incredibly talented musical theatre group.
